Installing it

    Open the disk image

    Double-click the downloaded Melvin-arm64.dmg, then drag Melvin onto the Applications folder in the window that opens.

    Launch Melvin from Applications

    Eject the disk image first so you are running the installed copy. Melvin opens its Home workspace and adds a menu bar icon plus a floating pill you can call up from anywhere.

    Grant Accessibility and Automation

    Onboarding walks through the two grants that cover the entire Mac. Microphone is optional, for voice. Melvin never asks for Screen Recording.

    Sign in and give it a task

    Model access and web search come with your account, so there are no API keys to paste. Type or speak the first thing you want done.

System requirements

  • macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer
  • Apple Silicon (M1 or newer); Intel Macs are not supported in this build
  • At least 1 GB of free disk space
  • An internet connection for model access and web search

What macOS will ask you for

Onboarding walks through the first two. The rest macOS asks for the first time a task needs them. Every prompt comes from macOS itself, and you can revoke any of them later in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Lets Melvin read the structure of your apps and act in them. One grant covers the entire Mac.

Automation (Apple Events)

The Apple Events path into Mail, Calendar, Reminders and Finder. macOS asks the first time each app is touched.

Microphone

Recommended

Voice input. Recording starts when you click the mic and stops when you click it again, never in the background.

Calendar and Reminders

Optional

Read your schedule and create events or reminders. Skip it and calendar tasks are the only thing you lose.

Contacts

Optional

Resolves the right address when you ask Melvin to email or message a person by name.

Weather, nearby places, and other answers that depend on where you are.

What it works with

The entire Mac

Mail, Finder, Calendar, Notes, Messages, Preview, Settings and anything else that publishes an interface to macOS. Driven natively, on your machine.

The web, in a cloud browser

Sites, portals and web apps run in a browser Melvin operates in the cloud. Sign in once inside a run and it stays signed in for the next one.

Saved and scheduled runs

Keep a job and run it again with the same context, or put it on a schedule: daily, every weekday, or weekly.

Nothing permanent without you

Sending, deleting, booking and paying wait for a confirmation. Everything reversible just runs.

Web work, without touching your Chrome

Web tasks run in a browser Melvin operates in the cloud. There is nothing to install and nothing to connect: hand Melvin a job that touches a site and it opens the browser itself. If a site needs you signed in, sign in once inside the run and the session is kept for the runs that follow. Your own Chrome, and everything it is signed into, is never touched.

If something goes wrong

macOS says Melvin cannot be opened
The build is signed and notarized, so this normally means the copy is still quarantined, for example because it was moved between machines. Control-click Melvin in Applications, choose Open, then confirm once.
I granted a permission but Melvin still cannot act
macOS applies Accessibility and Automation grants when an app restarts. Quit Melvin from the menu bar icon and launch it again.
I have an Intel Mac
This build is Apple Silicon only. There is no Intel build, and Rosetta will not help because the native helpers are arm64.
How do updates work
Melvin checks the stable release channel and updates itself in the background, so you only need to download from this page once.
How do I remove it
Quit Melvin, drag it from Applications to the Trash, and delete the ~/.melvin folder to clear local state. Revoke the permission grants in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Privacy on macOS

Melvin executes locally. A model request sends only the context needed for the task you initiated. Gmail access is read-only, credentials are stored with the macOS Keychain, and optional diagnostics are redacted. Read the privacy policy for the full breakdown.
