Use Melvin from ChatGPT or Claude.

Add Melvin to ChatGPT or Claude once, on the web or on your phone, and ask for things in the chat. Melvin does them on your own Mac and sends the result back.

Set it up

  1. Install Melvin on your Mac from the download page and sign in.
  2. Click the Melvin icon in the menu bar and choose Connect ChatGPT or Claude…. Your link is copied.
  3. Claude: open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste the link.
  4. ChatGPT: open Settings, then Apps & Connectors. Turn on Developer mode under Advanced, choose Create, paste the link and pick OAuth.
  5. Press Allow on the Melvin screen that opens. That is it: it now works in that app on every device.

How it works

The chat app talks to Melvin's relay, never to your Mac. Your Mac keeps its own connection out to Melvin, so nothing on it is opened to the internet: no ports, no router settings.

Your Mac has to be awake with Melvin open for a task to run. If it is asleep, the chat says so straight away instead of queuing the task to run later without you.

The link works once and expires after 15 minutes. To connect another app, make a new one from the menu bar.
